The draw for the US Open is set to get underway on Thursday as Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu look to defend the titles they won last year. Medvedev defeated Novak Djokovic in the men’s final at Flushing Meadows last time around, while Briton Raducanu stunned the tennis world by defeating Leylah Fernandez in the women’s showpiece event. Fans in the UK can watch it for free.How many players are in the US Open draw?There are 128 players in the draw for the first round of the men’s and women’s singles. The top 104 players in the world 42 days before the tournament gets underway are automatically entered into the draw. Novak Djokovic’s place at the tournament is still up in the air as he hasn’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 – but the Serbian would be seeded fifth if he is allowed to play.Britain’s Cameron Norrie will be seeded seventh if Djokovic isn’t involved, while Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios will be seeded 23rd in Djokovic’s absence. Murray won’t be seeded.In the women’s draw, world No 1 Iga Swiatek, who won the French Open, is the top seed. And the likes of Anett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari, Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka and Simona Halep all feature in the top 10. Raducanu is seeded 11th, while Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina is 25th. Williams, who is set to retire from tennis after the tournament, is unseeded.When does the US Open start?Qualifying matches for the US Open began on Tuesday. The main tournament is set to start on Monday, August 29, with matches scheduled to get underway from 4pm (BST).
