With the 2024 NBA Draft in our rearview mirror, bettors are looking ahead to which player will win the Rookie of the Year award.Zaccharie Risacher went No. 1 overall to the Hawks, Alexandre Sarr went No. 2 to the Wizards and Reed Sheppard went No. 3 to the Rockets, all as (somewhat) expected. One big draft day surprise was two-time National Player of the Year Zach Edey sneaking into the top 10, going ninth to the Memphis Grizzlies. Prior to the draft, Edey was +2000 to be the No. 9 pick. Edey played his first NBA Summer League game on Monday night, with the Grizzlies falling 97-95 to the Utah Jazz in overtime. Despite the loss, Edey was effective, scoring 14 points alongside 15 rebounds and four blocks. He also had six fouls. With the big showing, Edey made a huge leap on the ROY oddsboard, going from fourth to second at BetMGM.And now, as of Wednesday morning, Edey is the new favorite to win the award, at +600. Edey overtook Sarr, who now sits at +650 to win the award.Let’s check out the Rookie of the Year odds at BetMGM as of July 10.Zach Edey, Grizzlies: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)Alexandre Sarr, Wizards: +650 (bet $10 to win $75 total)Zaccharie Risacher, Hawks: +800 (bet $10 to win $90 total)Dalton Knecht, Lakers: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)Stephon Castle, Spurs: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)Reed Sheppard, Rockets: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total)Of course, we can’t have a conversation about rookies without discussing Bronny James. Where does he fall on the betting board? As of July 9, he’s way down the list at +25000, after being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick in the draft. In his NBA Summer League debut, James scored four points on 2-for-9 shooting in 21 minutes. He added in two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Bronny James scores 4 points in NBA Summer League debut On Monday’s edition of “Undisputed,” Skip Bayless discussed James’ debut, focusing more on the attention he’s bound to get at Summer League as opposed to his actual play.”This is what’s gonna happen to the son of LeBron James: I’m watching the internet, and he’s getting ridiculed for getting his ankles broken on a play. … I hear what you say about the Summer League doesn’t matter, but this is the son of LeBron James. So it’s going to, unfortunately, matter way too much, because we haven’t seen much of him. And now I’m on the edge of my seat, because I didn’t get to see enough of him at USC, and plus, he had heart surgery that cost him the first month of the season. “So last year, I write completely off. This is where it kinda starts.”Follow along with FOX Sports for the latest news on the NBA and other sports.Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
