Cowboys to host former All-Pro OT Jason Peters

Nine-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Jason Peters is slated to meet with the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, per USA Today’s Jori Epstein.The team is in need of extra help at the tackle position following Tyron Smith’s hamstring injury, which is expected to keep the valuable mainstay out for a majority of the regular season.Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy told reporters to “stay tuned” on potential additions at the tackle slot, but stressed that rookie OL Tyler Smith would get his opportunity to earn a starting role.”I would like to defer on our starting lineup,” Mike McCarthy said when asked if the 2022 first-round pick would be the Week 1 starter at the blindside. “But Tyler [Smith] will definitely get a lot of work at left tackle.”Peters, who turned 40 in January, started 15 games for the Chicago Bears last season. He was first signed as an undrafted free agent by Buffalo in 2004 and earned a pair of second-team All-Pro selections, in addition to a pair of Pro Bowls.He was traded to Philadelphia in 2009 following contractual disputes and soon established himself as one of the best linemen in the NFL.
