Alpine are said to ‘have six drivers on their shortlist’ following Fernando Alonso’s exit and the saga surrounding Oscar Piastri. In August Alonso confirmed he would be leaving Alpine at the end of 2022 to join Formula 1 rivals Aston Martin.Following the Spaniard’s announcement, the team confirmed that reserve driver Piastri would step in as replacement for 2023. Remarkably though, the youngster came out to confirm that Alpine’s announcement was in fact false, and he would not be driving for them next year.Amid the chaos the means the Enstone-based setup are still without a driver for the 2023 season, but team CEO Laurent Rossi has confirmed he has now whittled down a list of 14 possible signings to six. He told RacingNews365: “We’ll take our time, [because] we don’t want to make a mistake. There is no rush and we are in a comfortable situation.
